Introduction

Southern Camp is the newest addition to Kapama Private Game Reserve, tailored for families.

The camp includes 15 luxury en-suite suites and 10 newly constructed villas, featuring 3 spacious family villas. Each suite and villa is air-conditioned and beautifully designed with a contemporary African-safari chic style.

Family villas come with private plunge pools, while all guests can unwind on the expansive wooden deck by the sparkling main pool. Dining options range from elegant indoor meals at the lodge restaurant on cooler evenings to al fresco dining under the stars at the rustic outdoor boma. For a romantic touch, consider a sleep-out in the bushveld.

Day 1

OR Tambo Airport to the Kapama Southern Camp

We will pick you up at 07:00am from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg in a shared minivan. Our journey takes us from the Highveld, down the escarpment, and through the scenic Lowveld region to reach Kapama Game Reserve by midday.

Kapama is a luxurious 150 square kilometers wildlife sanctuary near Kruger National Park, home to up to 40 large mammal species including the Big Five. You'll stay at the five-star Kapama Southern Camp, with stylish rooms offering views over the wildlife-rich surrounds.

After a light lunch, you can relax by the swimming pool before your first game drive. In the late afternoon, we head out into the reserve where you might encounter lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo.

As the sun sets, we return to the lodge where dinner awaits, either in the fine-dining restaurant or outdoors on the wooden deck overlooking the reserve.

Activities Day 1

Morning

Collection from OR Tambo Airport Bus Terminal, departing at 07:00am in a shared minivan transfer to the Kapama River Lodge. Private transfer can be arranged at an extra cost.

Afternoon

Lunch is always a highlight, so relax and enjoy our food.
Come with us on an afternoon / evening game drive in Kapama Private Game Reserve. The light is ideal for photos, temperatures are cooler and the animals are beginning to become more active.

Night

Tonight we'll be serving you a dinner to remember.

Kapama Southern Camp, nestled within the Kapama Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger area, presents an ideal retreat away from the crowds. We selected this property for our clients due to its comfortable suites, complemented by a restaurant, bar, and swimming pool. A spa center is available for guests seeking relaxation. The combination of quality accommodation and warm service makes this an excellent base for exploring the reserve.

Day 2

Morning and Afternoon Safari Drives

We'll wake you early for hot drinks and rusks before heading out on an early morning game drive. This private sanctuary protects up to 40 large mammal species, and early morning is when you're most likely to see them active. We might encounter lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo, along with giraffe and various antelope species. The soft morning light is perfect for photography as we explore the reserve's diverse bush ecosystem.

After returning to Kapama Southern Camp for a late breakfast, you'll have time to relax by the pool or enjoy our spa facilities. Our stylish suites with their safari decor and earth tones offer views over the wildlife-rich plains, making it tempting to simply unwind and soak in the surroundings.

Late afternoon, after high tea, we'll head out again for a sunset game drive with a stop for sundowners in the bush. You'll dine, enjoying excellent cuisine from our highly regarded wine cellar.

Day 3

Morning safari drive, Breakfast and return to Johannesburg

We'll set out for one last early morning game drive in Kapama Private Game Reserve. This is your final chance to see the wildlife of this beautiful reserve, and the soft morning light makes it a special time to be out among the animals. After the drive, we'll return to the lodge for breakfast before departing mid-morning.

We'll then transfer you by road back to Johannesburg, a journey that takes us through the South African countryside. You'll arrive at Johannesburg Airport in the late afternoon, where we'll drop you off at OR Tambo International Airport. If you need to be dropped off at a hotel or guest house in Johannesburg or Pretoria instead, we can arrange this for you.

Departure from lodge and return to the Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport Bus Terminal in a shared minivan transfer. Arrival in Johannesburg is between 17:30 - 18:00pm.

At The Kruger Safari Co., we use comfortable 13-seater vehicles for all transfers, trusted local airlines, and specially adapted open safari vehicles (depending on the lodge) to ensure the best wildlife viewing experience.

Transfer Vehicles from Johannesburg

Comfortable, Air-conditioned Toyota Quantum minivan seating up to 13 persons.
We use our fleet of Toyota Quantum's for group shared transfers to the National park from Johannesburg and Panorama Route Tours.

Kapama Private Game Reserve

Kapama Private Game Reserve uses fully open safari vehicles, each seating up to six guests (unless a different arrangement is requested). These open vehicles offer an unobstructed 360-degree view, allowing you to fully experience the sights and sounds of the reserve.
