Introduction

This popular 5-day budget treehouse safari provides guests with an authentic experience, featuring a unique stay in a treehouse at a private camp in Motlala Game Reserve. Spanning 3,000 hectares, this protected wildlife reserve is part of the Greater Kruger and located less than an hour's drive from the iconic Kruger National Park.

Day 1

Day 1 Johannesburg to Tremisana Game Lodge

Guests are collected from OR Tambo International Airport or a pre-arranged hotel/guest lodge within the city precinct of Johannesburg or Pretoria. The route to the Kruger National Park in the Mpumalanga Province takes you from the wide-open spaces of the Highveld, down the escarpment and through the scenic Lowveld region.
Stopover for lunch along the way (own expense). Arrive at the Tremisana Lodge mid-day; book into your accommodation, freshen up and rest. Transfer to an open Landcruiser for an exciting game drive. As darkness falls, we stop at the famous Marula Boma for a memorable Bush BBQ. Overnight in the air-conditioned ensuite chalet.

Accommodation – Day 1

Tremisana Game Lodge

Expect first-rate Big Five viewing at Tremisana Lodge, which stands in the heart of Balule Nature Reserve, within the vast African wilderness of the Greater Kruger ecosystem. Guided game drives, tasty meals and modern air-conditioned chalets are all part of the safari experience offered at Tremisana, which also overlooks a waterhole where elephants regularly come to drink.

Day 2

Day 2 Morning Bush Walk and Afternoon Safari Drive

The second day begins with a sunrise bush walk. Guests are driven to a remote area in the Balule Game Reserve, and in the company of an armed ranger, they enjoy a 4 hour bush walk. While listening to the tales and facts shared by the rangers, guests will experience the thrill of being up close to the animals and they will have the opportunity to take plenty of photos.

After the bush walk, you will return to the Tremisana Lodge for brunch and some downtime. At around 14h30, after lunch has been served we will embark on an afternoon game drive. Instead of returning to the Tremisana Lodge for another night, we will instead go to Marc’s Treehouse Lodge for the night.

Accommodation – Day 2

Marc's Treehouse Lodge

You can look forward to an immersive African bush experience at Marc’s Treehouse Lodge. This rustic small lodge will accommodate you in a stilted wood, canvas and thatch unit set in the riparian forest that fringes the Klaserie River as it runs through Motlala Game Reserve. Despite the bush feel, treehouses all have fans, nets and private bathrooms. There are also viewing decks from where birders can look out for forest specialists such as Narina trogon, purple-crested turaco and trumpeter hornbill. Motlala is home to three of the Big Five (rhino, buffalo and leopard) as well as giraffe, zebra, hyena and nyala antelope, and it forms a good base for day safaris into Kruger National Park.

Day 3 & 4

Day 3 & 4 Full Day Kruger Park Safari Drive

Wake up early for hot beverages and rusks and then it’s time to depart for a full day safari tour in the Kruger National Park. We enter via Orpen Gate and spend the day exploring the upper-south and central region. Lunch break at a popular Kruger Park rest camp (your own cost). Return to your lodge as the sun sets; freshen up and join your guide for a starlit dinner at the lodge lapa.
